Thanks so much for the latest news about Edith Shiffert. I had the pleasure of knowing her while I was teaching part time at Seika Daigaku and until I left Japan in I feel sad that she is not with us in some ways. But, that profile photo of her is beautiful.
Now living in Florida, USA. Edith first came to Kyoto in the heady days of , and she writes fondly of the various dwellings which gave rise to poetry closely related to the spirit of place: Here she enjoyed a happy second marriage with Minoru Sawano, which formed the basis for a book in Japanese.
Edith studied Taoism and Buddhism in the s, part of a pioneering generation who turned their attention to the Far East. The sound of wind.
